The citizens of Hart County approved a Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) on November 4, 2014. Funds received from the one percent sales and use tax will be used to construct an agriculture science facility, a multipurpose gymnasium and wellness facility, and a college and career academy at Hart County High School.
Construction on the multipurpose gymnasium and wellness facility and the college and career academy began May of 2015 and it is on schedule to be completed by August 2017. The agriculture science facility will be open by November 2016.
The Hart County College and Career Academy (HCCA) will blend the needs of community businesses and industries into the vital work of public education resulting in more marketable citizens throughout Hart County. HCCA will provide a challenging, blended curriculum, based on local workforce needs.
The future agriscience and multi-purpose health and wellness facilities will provide opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery in real-life, community-based settings. STEAM skills will continue to develop as the walls of the classroom are expanded into many real world-life possibilities. For examples, rural farm and water studies allow students to see and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
